Coimbatore: Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian today inaugurated the COVID-19 Vaccination Center, which will be open to the public and private sector employees in areas under the Coimbatore Corporation.
Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian today flagged off the COVID-19 Mobile Vaccination Center from the Coimbatore Corporation office premises.
Following this, he met with reporters and said, "Various measures have been taken to provide a coronavirus vaccine in the Coimbatore Corporation area. The target is to vaccinate 10,000 people a day. At present, a total of 4,000 people are being vaccinated, with 150 to 200 people in each primary health care facility.
A mobile vaccination center has been set up in all 5 zones in the Coimbatore municipality for vaccination in all streets. 3 groups will operate in each zone and these groups are to be involved in vaccinating factory workers, business premises, shop workers, school workers, residents and the public in public places.
Kumaravel Pandian added saying, "It is essential to wear a face mask and follow the social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. Businesses should have only 50 per cent employees and should not allow more than a certain number of customers. Only 50 per cent of the markets in the corporation should be operational. Fine is imposed on those who do not wear masks."
He also spoke about the severity of the virus outbreak. "Chennai ranks first in Tamil Nadu in terms of coronavirus impact. Coimbatore has a population of 20 lakh and the number of people infected is increasing in terms of population. Each zone has a toll-free phone number and a WhatsApp number and vaccination will be provided to private companies in their place upon request. 1500 beds are ready in Coimbatore and we plan to increase this to 3,000.
The corporation does not have the power to impose a fine of 200 rupees and 500 rupees if the individual does not wear the mask but buses or shops will be fined between Rs 500 and Rs 5,000 for allowing people without masks, " he added.
The corporation is planning to function with 50 per cent of the occupancy in beautified areas and parks under the Smart City project."We will consider a 100 per cent ban if the crowds cannot be controlled," Kumaravel Pandian said.
