Coimbatore: The police have arrested one person and seized 12.5 lakh worth of banned pan masala and tobacco products.
The police noticed a suspicious van parked while inspecting in the Periyanaickenpalayam area of Coimbatore. When it was inspected, they found banned tobacco products worth Rs 12.5 lakh. Following that, the driver was arrested and the van was confiscated.
Periyanaickenpalayam police station SI Selvanayagam conducted a surprise raid at the Manikarampalayam, Mountain View residential area near Narasimhanaickenpalayam. At that time, in the van parked there had about 500 kg of pan masala packets worth 12.5 lakh rupees stored in 18 cardboard boxes.
They are banned products by the Tamil Nadu government. So, the police have confiscated them and arrested Gangadharan, 42, from the same area in connection with the smuggling.
