Coimbatore: A sudden fire caught in Kasturbai Nagar forest near Kotagiri was put out after 2 hours of struggle today. The reason is said to be due to hotter weather and drought conditions.

A fire broke out in a dense forest area near Kasturbai Nagar near Kotagiri in the Nilgiris district on Saturday. The Nilgiris district is currently experiencing severe hot weather and sunshine.

Due to the drought, the fields didn't yield much produce this year. When the fire broke out, the fire station personnel was informed and a team led by Madan with firemen including Sarathkumar, Raja, Nithyanandam reached the place. They extinguished the fire in 2 hours.

The fire was brought under control sooner and more than 150 nearby families and the BSNL tower escaped the blaze. The fire officer said firefighters were ready as there was a possibility of frequent fires in the Nilgiris forest areas due to the dry weather and climate.
