PG medicos’ stir: Indefinite strike called off, resumption of work likely

The management has promised to meet their demands and they will be resuming work.

Coimbatore: Furore over the workload being mounted on PG medicos after the house surgeons relieved off their training period, they went on to strike complaining the inability to handle the pressure and demanding basic requirements.

As many as 70 Postgraduates from Coimbatore Medical College Hospital took part in this strike. The medicos alleged that college management did not meet their demands which included food, accommodation and stipend.

"We have not got our stipend so far in the last two months. Further, we are forced to get our own food and there is no proper accommodation for us too," said the students when asked.

When approached the dean of CMCH Dr Nirmala, she said all their demands will be addressed and that the necessary steps have been taken.

Following the dean’s meet with students on Friday, the medicos now announced to call off their strike.

“We are told that our stipend will be credited into our account in the next two days and they have promised to meet our other demands. Hence we are calling off the strike," told the students.

It is expected that the medicos will be put back for COVID-19 duty, to administer drugs and to ensure that all the treatments are done.
