Wife, relative arrested for burning husband alive in car to claim insurance money and to repay the debt

Tirupur: A wife, with the help of her relative, attempted to burn her husband alive in the car to claim for his insurance money near Tirupur yesterday.

Rangarajan (62) is from Thudupathi in Perundurai near Erode. He owns a power loom and handles the real estate business. He has been in debt for Rs. 1 Crore for a while. Due to this, the money lenders have been demanding him to pay back the money. Earlier last month, Rangarajan was involved in an accident in which he injured his leg. So he has been admitted to a private hospital in Coimbatore.

Yesterday, Rangarajan's wife Jyoti Mani (55) and a relative Raja (44) arrived in Coimbatore to take Rangarajan back home after discharge. While going back to Erode, Raja and Jyotimani parked the car in the Perumanallur area near Tirupur to relieve themselves.

While Rangarajan was seated in the car, he saw smoke coming from it. The car suddenly caught fire and Rangarajan was burnt to death. When the Perumanallur police were informed, they arrived at the scene and began an investigation. Raja and Jyoti Mani claimed that they tried to save Rangarajan.

Since the police suspected them to have a motive behind it, they conducted a serious investigation upon which it was revealed that it is a planned action. The wife and relative had purposely poured petrol over the car and killed Rangarajan as he had a lot of debts. They wanted to procure his insurance money worth Rs. 3 Crores.

Following this, the police have arrested Jyoti Mani his wife and relative Raja and are conducting an inquiry.
