BJP protests demand proper basic facilities for those involved in monitoring the voting machines.
Coimbatore: After the assembly elections in Coimbatore district, the counting center for 10 assembly constituencies has been set up at GCT College, in Thadagam Road. Volunteers for 10 constituencies are stationed here, along with volunteers from political parties to monitor the rooms.
It is said that adequate basic facilities were not provided to the persons involved in monitoring the polling station. Hence, a protest was led by BJP District President and Chief Agent Nandakumar in Coimbatore.
Nandakumar said, "There are no basic facilities such as toilets, shelter or even food for the security of the voting machines. It is the duty of the state. This situation brings an increased risk of COVID-19 infection as the rooms are in a cramped space."
He urged that appropriate measures should be taken by the officials to ensure their safety. Speaking to the authorities in person, Nandakumar later said that the authorities had promised to arrange for necessary basic facilities available from tomorrow. He also announced that there will be protests if it is not fulfilled.
