Ravikumar (42), a resident of Chikkalampalayam area near Kinathukkadavu, Coimbatore district resided in the area with his wife Sangeetha, a 12-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter. He owned a car and offered cab services for a livelihood.

On April 6, Ravikumar who was alone at home on Wednesday reportedly downed a bottle of Nilgiri Eucalyptus oil and had to be rushed to Coimbatore Government Hospital for first-aid. He was later admitted to a private hospital in Sundarapuram area for further treatment. Since his condition had worsened, Ravikumar had to be taken by ambulance to a private hospital in Ottakkal but died en route.
Kinathukadavu police arrived at his residence and are investigating the incident. The police have registered a case on Wednesday night following a complaint lodged by Ravikumar's wife Sangeetha. It is reported that the police discovered that Ravikumar had been unable to make a living in the past year owing to the Coronavirus pandemic due to which when he was unable to operate cab services. Unable to provide for his family without a proper regular source of income, Ravikumar slipped into depression and finally resorted to the extreme step of drinking from the eucalyptus bottle to end his life.
