The Madurai Veeran Temple in Valparai is celebrating its 67th annual festival this year.
Coimbatore: Kakkan Colony is situated in the central part of Valparai in Coimbatore District. The colony is home to the famous Madurai Veeran Temple which is celebrating its 67th annual festival this year. Accordingly, the festival began with a flag hoisting ceremony on Friday last week.
The entire area from Kakkan Colony to the Market area was lit with electric lights ahead of the temple festival.
With special ceremonies happening every day, today's ceremony was "Mulaipari" which is a traditional ritual praying for good yield in the fields. Also, a "Paal Kudam" ceremony was conducted from Nallakaathu river and went via New Bus stand, Stan Moore Junction, Gandhi Statue Complex, Old Bus Stand and New Market area, reaching the temple.
During the Paal Kudam ceremony, devotees went as a large procession with exquisite Chenda Melam sounds and offered their respect to the god.
Pilgrims and devotees then participated in other rituals and ceremonies as a part of the temple festival.
