Minister SP Velumani and 3 AIADMK members charged for violating election rules

A case has been filed on the AIADMK leader SP Velumani and three members under sections 269, 143 for violating Covid-19 protocols and Election Commission's rules.

Coimbatore: The Election Commission ordered the political parties to conclude their elections campaigns and all other activities related to polls by 7 pm on 4th April.

But on Monday, April 5, it is said that more than 200 AIADMK members in 50 plus vehicles gathered near the Thondamuthur AIADMK election office under Minister and AIADMK Thondamuthur constituency candidate SP Velumani.

Flying Squadron Officials on noticing this filed a complaint with the Selvapuram Police Station under the violation of the model code of conduct. It was registered on 4 people including Minister SP Velumani, Selvapuram area Youth Wing Secretary Veeramani, Selvapuram area secretary Vijayakumar and 77th ward AIADMK secretary Katudurai.

Under sections 269, 143, the members and SP Velumani are charged for violating Covid-19 protocols and Election Commission's rules.

In another incident, Minister SP Velumani went to the government school in Sugunapuram under the Thondamuthur constituency in Coimbatore to cast his vote yesterday. According to the election guidelines, all vehicles are required to be stopped before 100 meters and permission was given only to old and disabled people.

However, Minister SP Velumani created tension in the area by bringing his vehicle next to the polling station with his party flag still on. Following this, a case was filed against him at the Kuniyamuthur Police Station for violating election protocols.

SP Velumani is the AIADMK candidate who has contested from Thondamuthur constituency in the 2021 TN Elections.
