Congress and Naam Tamilar Party candidates stage road roko accusing BJP for distributing cash
Coimbatore: Congress candidate Mayura Jayakumar has lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the BJP was distributing money by issuing tokens in Coimbatore South Assembly constituency. Earlier, Congress candidate Mayura Jayakumar staged a road blockade on Vysiyal Road demanding appropriate action against those who distributed money. Coalition parties then joined him in the protest. Abdul Wahab, the Naam Tamil Party candidate joined the Congress party executives in the road roko.
They claimed that the BJP was distributing money by issuing tokens and that the money was being disbursed through a private agency. They also accused the election officials of not taking action even after the complaint.
Tension prevailed in as the road roko continued on Vaisyal Street and the Coimbatore City Deputy Commissioner, Uma had to intervene to calm the protesters. Only after her assurance that appropriate action would be taken against those who distributed cash, both parties abandoned the protest and dispersed.
