Polling stations equipped to prevent drop in voter turnout due to scorching heat
Coimbatore: With weather forecasters warning that the summer heat will peak today, all polling booths have been adequately equipped with drinking water and seating facilities especially for the elderly, to prevent decline in voter turnout due to summer heat.
The temperature in Coimbatore was recorded at 95 degrees F yesterday, with an increase from 92 degrees F to 94 degrees F in the last 10 days. The temperature is expected to rise further to 97 degrees F today.
Since voting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections is to take place in Coimbatore district between 7 am and 7 pm today, pregnant women and the elderly have been advised to go to the polling booths between 7 am and 10 am or between 4 pm and 7 pm to avoid the scorching heat.
