Delay in issuing booth slips in Coimbatore causing inconvenience to voters
Coimbatore: Voters were inconvenienced today owing to a delay in issuing booth slips. Voters have been thronging booths in their constituencies to cast their votes since morning. They were provided with fce masks, hand gloves and sanitizers to safeguard themselves from Coronavirus infection at polling stations.
Assembly elections are being held in Tamil Nadu today in a single phase. District Collector Nagarajan had been appointed as the Election Officer for Coimbatore District which has a total of 10 assembly constituencies. 4427 polling booths had been set up in 10 constituencies. In the total electoral roll, 15,09,531 are males, 15,52,799 are females and 414 are of the third gender thus contributing to a total tally of 30,62,744 votes.
The distribution of booth slips to voters at polling stations in Coimbatore district has not been provided on behalf of the district administration. Booth slips are usually issued one week before the election. But people complained that booth slips in many places in the district had reportedly not even been issued till election day.
The Election Commission of India has introduced a facility to download booth slips on the Internet. But since most people are not tech-savvy enough to download it from the internt, special arrangements had to be made for voters to obtain booth slips at polling stations.
