A whopping Rs. 55.47 crores worth cash and products have been seized by election officials in Coimbatore thus far
Coimbatore: Since the announcement of Assembly elections had been made as due to be held for the 10 Assembly constituencies in Coimbatore on April 6, an Election Control Center has been functioning at the Coimbatore Collector's Office since last March.
A toll-free phone number had been announced to report complaints, including distribution of cash, alcohol, posters, gifts and other such election irregularities. Complaints received were reported to the Flying Squadron Officials and immediate action was taken. A total of 288 complaints had been received till April 4. Of these, 139 complaints have been resolved, 146 petitions have been rejected and 3 petitions are pending.
Similarly, 732 complaints have been received through the C-Vigil mobile application of which 542 complaints were resolved immediately. 155 complaints have been rejected and 5 petitions are pending. A round-the-clock monitoring of the candidates competing in the election was being done by a Surveillance Team which had been set up to monitor illegal money and gift distribution including cash gifts to buy votes.
Rs. 9,27220 in cash and Rs. 2,83,676 worth of liquor bottles, thus amounting to a total of 11,39,000 were confiscated on the same day in the district on Sunday. Rs. 6,83,77,318 cash, liquor bottles worth Rs. 70,14,282 and other items worth Rs. 47,91,58,707 have been confiscated thus far in Coimbatore district. These were refunded only if the persons concerned submitted relevant documents for the seized money and other items.
About Rs. 9,27,220 in cash, alcohol bottles worth Rs. 2,83,676 rupees were seized on Sunday which added to a whopping total of Rs. 12,11,397 in one day. Thus far, Rs. 6,83,77,318 has been seized in Coimbatore owing to not having valid documents, Rs. 70,14,282 worth alcohol bottles were also seized. Along with this, gift items worth Rs. 47,91,58,707 were also seized adding up to a whopping total of Rs. 55.47 crores thus far. Only those seized items which had valid documentaation were restored back to the owners.
