EVMs transported to polling stations with tight security, 5000 police deployed for Election day
Coimbatore: The 2021 Assembly elections are scheduled for tomorrow in Coimbatore district.
Ahead of this, the sealed bags which contains EVMs were safely transported in the presence of the election officials. Officers escorted it to the respective polling booths with armed police security. 5,000 police are deployed for this duty.
There are 4,477 polling booths in the Coimbatore district. The necessary machinery control tools and VVPAT equipment were supplied to these booths this afternoon. Voting machines were sent zone-wise to the assembly constituencies.
Also, the work order was issued to the polling station chief and assistant officers this morning after which, they visited the respective polling stations. Officers are asked to be at the polling stations from morning until the end of casting votes tomorrow.
Policemen will be on security duty today at every polling station. About 5,000 policemen will be on duty at the corporation level and about 10,000 policemen at the district level tomorrow.
At the district level, the officers will be engaged in intensive surveillance from today. There are 861 tense polling stations in the district that will also be monitored through web cameras.
