Officials inspect the election Strong Rooms in Coimbatore where EVMs and ballot boxes will be stored.
Coimbatore: Voting will take place across the constituencies in Coimbatore district tomorrow.
In the evening after poll hours, the EVMs will be sealed and placed in Strong Rooms at the Government Engineering College, which will also be the center for counting votes in May.
There is a gap of 28 days between the date of voting and counting processes. Hence, the election monitoring officers examined to know how the Strong Rooms were guarded. The Election General Monitoring officer Rajesh Sukumar Toppo inspected the premises of the Coimbatore Government Technical College (GCT), where electronic voting machines will be stored. Along with him, the General Election Monitoring officer and Sivasubramaniam, Southern Election Officer inspected the arrangements.
In the Coimbatore district, the votes cast in all 10 constituencies will be counted in the GCT college. After voting, the EVMs will be brought in with armed police security and secured in the 'Strong Room' located in the college campus. It will be 'sealed' in the presence of political party agents.
Until May 2, the police will be on 24-hour shift surveillance. The 'CCTV' camera is fitted and the officials will monitor the rooms every day. There is a separate way for agents to get to the vote-counting area and a separate way for officers to go.
In the room where the electronic machines are to be kept, the officials inspected whether the windows were closed and covered with wooden frames. He also checked for any loopholes to attempt trespassing.
Rajesh Sukumar then inspected if the election officers and agents had toilet facilities, and instructed the officers to arrange water and food for them.
