Election staff demand a day off on April 7 after Assembly elections
Coimbatore: The election staff have demanded a day off after the Assembly elections which are due to be held on April 6 in Tamil Nadu. Election officials wish to return home after the voting is completed and machines handed over.
Earlier, elections were held during school summer vacations or weekends, which enabled officials to return home or back to work after a day of rest. Since the Assembly elections are now a working day, with voter registration time also increased, officials on duty have demand for a holiday the day after the elections are held.
Arulanantham of the Tamil Nadu High School PG Teachers' Association stated, "As the official announcement has not been made, there is confusion among teachers as to whether to return to work. Almost after 12 hours of work on Election Day, a holiday will have to be declared on April 7, since we require rest."
