Coimbatore: 31 lakh voters and 137 candidates; security arrangements tightened for Election Day tomorrow.
Coimbatore: The 2021 TN Assembly election will take place tomorrow in all the 10 constituencies in Coimbatore. There are a total 30,82,028 voters, where 15,19,027 are male, 15,62,573 are female and 428 third gender.
Across 10 constituencies, the total number of candidates is 137 from Coimbatore. And it is reported that there are 1,085 polling booths across the district. Out of this, 861 stations are identified as 'tense' booths.
Around 4,427 voting machines are placed in Coimbatore and they will be surveilled by 10 Election Officers, along with 2,1256 polling staffs and 318 monitoring officers.
The month-long election campaigning in Coimbatore came to an end yesterday. Since elections are happening in one phase, we can wait for the verdict of 30,82,028 voters in the city by next month.
Final preparations for the election are in full swing. Tasks including making basic facilities at the polling booths, outlining the 100 meter and 200-meter markings and fitting ‘CCTV’ cameras at the 'tense polling booths' took place yesterday.
For the convenience of the voters, the pavilions were set up today. With electronic voting machines, acknowledgement machines, different types of envelopes, forms, sealing materials, officers today went to the booths and were monitored by the Chief. They were accompanied by police security.
The security officials will stay at the respective checkpoints tonight. Tomorrow, the polling officers will begin their sample voting process with party representatives at the booths.
Since the Coronavirus infection is on the rise, the Election Commission has ordered that safety precautions be followed and to provide masks to the employees. All those who come to vote are to be provided with gloves to wear on their right hand. Election preparations are being carried out under the supervision of District Collector Nagarajan and Central Election Monitoring officers.
