Actor and MNM leader Kamal Haasan is making his electoral debut from the Coimbatore South constituency in the upcoming assembly elections. He has been campaigning across the district to gain support for Makkal Needhi Maiam candidates and himself.
Kamal Hassan today responded to BJP Candidate Vanathi Srinivasan's remark about him fading away from politics when he gets movie offers. "I won’t fade away and the people have already decided who will fade away after this election," said Kamal and slammed Vanathi for her comments.
Saying that history has pushed him to take his political plunge, Kamal also told he had done a mistake by waiting till his 60’s to enter politics. “People should also involve themselves in politics and should not wait like me and do a mistake” Kamal spoke.
Contesting as an MLA candidate from Coimbatore south constituency, MNM leader Kamal Hassan said there are people in this constituency under below poverty line who have been living in the same circumstances for many years now. He criticised that the government has neglected them.
“I have seen many people below the poverty line in this constituency and saddened by listening to their plight. I owe to reshape their life and make them live the ordinary social life like others," he said.
On being asked, Kamal Hassan said he has received so many threats after taking his political career and that he doesn’t want to disclose that with the media. Accompanying him, actress Suhasini, who is also close aid of Kamal Haasan accused the ruling party of bringing up developments schemes only in urban areas.
“I come from down south and thought Coimbatore will look like a developed city. But I could see the plight of poor in this city and it gives a feeling that government has focused only on the developments of urban areas but neglected to provide the basic requirements at slums," she told.
Meanwhile, Radhika Sarathkumar, actress and Vice President of Samthuva Makkal Katchi, which has joined hands with MNM for the upcoming assembly election, said that women and children under the ruling party are under threat and they are ready to accept the change.
“The only party that can strongly say they are corruption-free is Makkal Needhi Maiyam and people already knew that,” Radhika added.
The political parties in Tamil Nadu are involved in intense vote gathering as they have been instructed to stop holding campaigns by 7 PM tonight.
