Coimbatore SP orders immediate arrest of people violating election code of conduct

A non-bailable case was filed against AIADMK executive Chandrasekhar for intimidating and threatening DMK candidates during a candidate introductory meeting in Vadavalli.

Coimbatore: An urgent meeting headed by the West Zone IG, Amalraj was held in Coimbatore District yesterday with the participation of eight District Superintendents of Police, including the SPs of Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts.

During the meeting IG Amalraj ordered the authorities to immediately arrest those involved in the case registered in non-bailable sections, in connection with election irregularities. Later, the Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, Selvanagarathinam held a discussion with district police officials in which it was learned that around 22 non bailable cases had been filed on some persons in Coimbatore district, thus far.

A non-bailable case was filed against AIADMK executive Chandrasekhar for intimidating and threatening DMK candidates during a candidate introductory meeting in Vadavalli. When the officials approached him to arrest him, he produced a pre-bail order due to which he was not arrested. Similarly, in an incident that occurred on March 28 at Okkilipalayam village, AIADMK members quarreled with DMK members and social activist, Sabarimala.

A non-bailable case was also filed against AIADMK party members and AIADMK Deputy Speaker Pollachi Jayaraman's son Praveen for allegedly assaulting DMK members. In another complaint filed by AIADMK members, a case was filed against DMK Pollachi candidate, Dr. Varadharajan and other members.

Hence, the Police Department is consulting on arresting prominent public figures from both the parties who have violated election rules. This has caused unrest across Pollachi.
