Congress leader K.S. Alagiri campaigns in Coimbatore, says BJP that sows hatred will never win

Coimbatore: A public meeting in support of Congress candidate Mayura S Jayakumar from the Coimbatore South Assembly constituency, was held at the polling booth next to the Coimbatore Town Hall with the participation of several alliance party leaders, including Congress leader KS Alagiri.

Udhayanidhi Stalin attended the meet as a special guest and he said, "The people must vote for the Mathasarbatra Murpokku Kootani to defeat the BJP in the Assembly elections. Make DMK win in the coming assembly elections in the same way as you supported us in the last parliamentary election."



Following him, Mayura S Jayakumar said, "I am contesting from Coimbatore South constituency in the coming Assembly elections. I am the 'Mannin Mainthan'. Kamal Haasan thinks he can win with his 'actor' status but it is a wrong assumption."

Mayura S Jayakumar also added that he has been serving this constituency for 29 years, which is half of his life, and accused that other candidates do not focus on Coimbatore South's issues as much as he does. He also asked if the other candidates have a history of serving in this constituency.

Adding, "Kamal Haasan knew nothing about this constituency and his main occupation was acting. So after the election, he will go to act in Indian 2. What goes on here is not an election for actors' association but an Assembly election."



Mayura S Jayakumar mentioned criticised about BJP's activities in TN. He said, "BJP, which came third in the vote difference in the last assembly elections, had shifted the then winning assembly member to another constituency, from which it could be understood what they wanted to achieve."

The Coimbatore South candidate also spoke about NEET examination and said, "13 children have died due to NEET exams. The NEET exam will be cancelled if a DMK-led Mathasarbatra Murpokku Kootani government is formed. He said the BJP would not be able to set foot in Tamil Nadu at any time and promised to reduce petrol taxes and waive jewellery, agriculture and education loans."



Later, Congress leader K.S. Alagiri addressed the crowd. He told, "People expect a change in this assembly election. All parties promise to reduce the cost of living in this election. But we have already done it 10 years ago. Under former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the government had controlled prices with his economic knowledge. Despite the high international crude oil prices, petrol was sold for 70 rupees and cooking gas for 420 rupees. But today, despite the halving of crude oil prices, under Modi's rule, petrol is selling for 100 rupees and cooking gas for 900 rupees."

KS Alagiri also said, "Manmohan Singh did not seek publicity but acted for the people. No clear explanation had been given so far for the money laundering perpetrated during Modi's rule. Peace is important in life and a citizen should realize that he is safe in that country. Otherwise, there is no point in a party ruling. The BJP continues to work to disrupt the peace of the people."

To applaud Congress' works, he added, "Gandhi sowed love so he won. Congress won by following his path. But the BJP, which sows hatred, will not succeed. Tamil Nadu would not allow the BJP's intention to mislead the people. Shops were forcibly closed when Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath arrived in Coimbatore for the election campaign. Why should shops be closed when the chief minister of state visits?"

Jallikattu was held without any hindrance during the Manmohan Singh regime till 2014. Jallikattu was held on appeal following the ban imposed on Jallikattu by the Madurai High Court in 2006. Following that, the Tamil Nadu Jallikattu Regulation Act was passed in 2009 under the DMK rule.

KS Alagiri also spoke to the crowd that Modi has spread lies about the Congress government in the Jallikattu matter, keeping only a statement issued by the Union Environment and Forests Ministry in 2011 that the Congress government had not accepted. He said that it was during the BJP rule that Jallikattu was banned and many protests took place.



"The BJP accuses the DMK of humiliating women. Dravidian movements have waged many struggles for the liberation of women. The Kalaignar rule brought in a law giving women an equal share in the property. What other proof is needed to say that the party that fought for women was the Dravidian party?" he questioned the parties. 

KS Alagiri then spoke to gather support for the Coimbatore South candidate. He said, "Day by day our strength is increasing and the enemies are going to be torn apart. Mayura Jayakumar, a young man who dares to do anything, is backed by the people of Coimbatore South constituency." He also asked the public to vote for the hand symbol in the forthcoming assembly elections.
