31,000 policemen to be deployed in West Zone for election duty, says the newly appointed West Zone IG - A Amalraj
Coimbatore: Inspector General of Police A Amalraj informed the press that 31,000 policemen will be deployed for election duty across the West Zone of Tamil Nadu.
He said, "Election security is in full swing. 31,000 police are to be deployed in the west zone comprising 8 districts namely Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri. Of these, 17,000 are from the police, 10,000 from the NCC and the home guards and 4,000 paramilitaries."
A Amalraj, who was the Additional Commissioner of the Chennai Police Headquarters, took up his position as the West Zone IG of Police yesterday.
