One lakh traditional healers and their families have announced to boycott 2021 TN election as the government failed to give their field a proper recognition
Coimbatore: The Traditional Practitioners' Association have announced that almost 1 lakh traditional healers and their families will boycott the 2021 TN elections. This decision was taken as the Tamil Nadu government has failed to give their field proper recognition.
At the consultative meeting which was held in Pollachi with the administrators of the Traditional Practitioners' Association, the healers and the authorities have collectively taken the decision. General Secretary Devasagayam led the meeting and met with the press later. He said, "There are as many as 1 lakh traditional healers across TN who treat poor and marginalised people at a very low cost."
He added, "For the past 3 years, the authorities have been obstructing traditional healers and doctors from giving treatment without proper registration. We have repeatedly demanded the government to grant us recognition but so far no action has been taken. Traditional folk medicine has a drug that can control the coronavirus. But the government did not allow it. Now that the coronavirus is spreading again, the government needs to give permission to supply the drugs."
Devasagayam later announced that if proper recognition is not given for the field and for 1 lakh healers, they will boycott the 2021 TN assembly elections with their families. The healers have also warned that they will paste slogans of boycotting the election in front of their houses.
