Property details of DMK candidates as filed during nomination reveal low finances
Coimbatore: DMK candidates contesting in 10 constituencies in Coimbatore district filed their property details along with the filing of their nomination papers. Every one of the candidates stated that they were suffering as much as the common man in terms of finances. The property value for each of the DMK candidates is detailed below.
Paiyya R Krishnan who is contesting Kavundampalayam constituency on behalf of DMK declared that at the time of filing his nomination in 2016-17, the value of his property was Rs. 5,25,750 and now at Rs. 17,59,060 in 2020-21. His wife Shantamani has also stated in the nomination that her property value which was Rs. 3,73,550 in 2016-17 is presently Rs. 4,36,280 in 2020-21.
DMK candidate, Kurichi Prabhakaran who is contesting from Kinathukadavu constituency has stated in his nomination that his property value which was Rs. 4,84,948 in 2015-16 is valued at Rs. 7,77,910 as of 2019-20. Similarly, his wife Gowri's property which was valued at Rs. 9,93,528 in 2015-16, has now been declared with a value of Rs. 18,33,060 in 2019-20
VM Shanmugasundaram who is contesting from Coimbatore North Assembly constituency has stated in his nomination that his property value which was Rs. 3,42,310 in 2015-16, is at Rs. 8,52,180 in 2019-20. His wife Amirthavalli in 2015-16 had Rs. 2,82,440 worth assets which is at Rs. 4,63,820 in 2019-20.
K Varadarajan, the DMK candidate who is contesting in Pollachi constituency has stated in his nomination that his property worth Rs. 8,16,057 during 2015-2016 is now at Rs. 6,17,370 in 2020-21. He has mentioned the value of property in the name of his wife Shanthi as Rs. 9,69,366 in 2015-2016 and Rs. 5,68,460 in 2020-2021. He has also mentioned that he had Rs. 15,74,960 in 2015-2016 and now has Rs. 8,37,000 in 2020-2021 as the joint head of the family.
DMK candidate TR Shanmugasundar who is contesting from Mettupalayam constituency has stated that the property value mentioned in his nomination was Rs. 20,36,010 during the period 2015-16 and Rs. 10,49,530 in 2019-20. He has also stated that he had no property under the name of his wife Vijayalakshmi in 2015-2016 but now has declared assets of Rs. 6,06,280 in 2019-2020.
The property value of N Karthik, a former MLA who is contesting from Coimbatore Singanallur constituency has been declared at Rs. 4,01,190 during the period 2015-16 and Rs. 3,09,140 in 2019-20. His wife Lakshmi Ilanselvi has stated that the value of her property was Rs. 4,13,270 in 2015-16 and is at Rs. 8,27,510 in 2019-20.
It is to be noted that properties owned by DMK candidates contesting in the upcoming elections in Coimbatore is on par with the average income of the common man who has been reeling under the effects of the pandemic on the economy.

He has also mentioned that he had Rs. 15,74,960 in 2015-2016 and now has Rs. 8,37,000 in 2020-2021 as the joint head of the family.
