The cleaning and removal work of older tea plants are intensified at various tea estates in Valparai, Coimbatore district.
Coimbatore: Tea is cultivated in an area of 50 thousand acres in Valparai, Coimbatore district. More than 50,000 workers are employed in various tea estates.
Once in every 5 years, the tea plantations are trimmed and cleaned to boost new growth by the workers. Currently, this process is carried out intensely across Valparai tea estates.
In this method, the estate workers choose well-grown 22 cm tea plants and cut the excess to increase tea leaves growth. This also increases the production of tea as it helps in the growth of new branches.
By this method, the water and other nutrients for tea plants are restored. Other weeds and dry plants are also removed in this process.
Now, the tea estates in Stanmore and Sirukundra have involved a large number of workers to do this process.
