PM Narendra Modi takes first dose of COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS; appeals to all citizens to get vaccinated

New Delhi: Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!" PM Modi tweeted with a picture of him receiving the coronavirus vaccine shot on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi got vaccinated at AIIMS on Monday, as the country enters into the second phase of the largest Covid-19 vaccination drive. The PM in his tweet appealed to all citizens to get vaccinated at the earliest.

The PM was administered with COVAXIN manufactured by Bharat BioTech. The PM in his Facebook page said "Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS.

Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19.

I appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!"

According to reports, in the first phase, 1.43 crore doses of Covishield and Covaxin vaccines were administered to healthcare and frontline workers.

Second phase of vaccination

The next phase of Covid-19 vaccination in the country is all set to start from, today which will cover people over 60 years of age and those above 45 with co-morbidities.

Notably, the second phase of vaccination comes at a time when India’s active Covid cases are under control, except in eight states --- Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh. These states have been a cause of concern, as they have been reporting a constant uptick in daily cases, in the last 2-3 weeks.

Appealing to the people above the age of 60 and those above 45 with co-morbidities to administer Covid-19 vaccine, the Union Health Ministry has announced that those willing to get vaccinated can book appointments from 9am to 3pm from March 1 onwards at any government hospital or a private one. While government hospitals will not charge for the vaccines, the private hospitals can charge up to Rs. 250 per dose.
