In his tweet, Sadhguru tagged CMO, DMK leader MK Stalin and Actor Rajinikanth.
Coimbatore: Sadhguru, the founder of the Isha Foundation tweeted saying that, "To protect the thousands of temples in Tamilnadu that are gradually being destroyed, the Tamilnadu government should hand them over to the devotees."
He has also tagged his tweet to Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy, Leader of the Opposition MK Stalin and actor Rajinikanth.
In the video he posted along with the tweet, Sadhguru said that: "The source of our Tamil culture is at our temples and the devotion in our hearts. We have identified temples as the symbol of our state.
Temples are like a soul to the Tamil people. It is very sad that this soul is enslaved in the hands of the government. Our government has not decided to take control of the temples across the state.
300 years ago the East India Company took control of our temples. They did not capture our temples out of devotion or spiritual zeal but took it under their control to steal the gold and diamond jewelries and other properties of the temples.
Temples captured by such greed remain in the same condition even after 74 years of Indian independence. My mind aches at the thought of this plight. The temples in Tamilnadu are damaged without proper maintenance.
In 2020, the Hindu Charities and Endowments Department submitted a report at the Chennai High Court.
The report said, “Around 11,999 temples do not have enough funds to perform even one puja a day. The income of 34,000 temples is less than Rs 10,000 per annum. In the 37 thousand temples, there is just one person for all the tasks such as performing pooja’s, maintaining temple premises and protecting the temple.”
If the same situation persists, except for the 10 important temples all others will be killed by the next 100 years."
Sadhguru in his video further stated that "If you demolish temples today, people will rebuild their temples with strengths. But, the temples are now being destroyed like 'Slow Poison'. If the temples are in the hands of the devotees they will take care of it safely even if their lives are lost. They value temples more than their lives.
The Constitution of our country states that 'any religion should be practiced by those who belong to that religion. No one else should interfere.'
It is not just the religion that exists now. Even if you create a new religion, it has freedom in our country. All the religions in the world are mixed in our country. While everyone else has this freedom, only our temples still follow slavery.
We need to change this. We call our country a 'secular country'. What this means is that religion should not interfere in government; The government should not interfere in religion.
So, if we do not protect the temples in this generation, the temples will be gone in the next 50-100 years. The temples that are the source and lifeblood of this culture will be completely destroyed. You have to give this commitment to the people if you want to win the coming elections whether it is the party in government or other parties.
The temples in Tamil Nadu should be freed from government slavery.” Thus said Satguru in the video attached to the his tweet.
