Don't harass us in the name of Election code of conduct: Industrialists request officials to be friendly and also ECI to increase the cash carry limit

In the past we have had many bitter experiences in which industrialists even after having everything were made to wait for two days to get back their own amount

Coimbatore: Industrialists across the Coimbatore district have requested the Election Commission officials who are deployed in the flying squads not to harass industrialists and also have requested the ECI to increase the cash carry limit by individuals.

On Friday, Election Commission of India made the announcement that the assembly elections in Tamilnadu will be conducted in a single phase on April 6th.

Following this announcement, the model code of conduct has immediately come into effect. Now all those who carry more than Rs 50,000 cash should have proper documents with them.

This cash carry limit is considered to be a big headache to people of all sectors since in many cases which includes medical, business it is difficult for many to abide by the rules.

Industrialists have requested the officials who work in flying squads not to harass the general public and business peoples in the name of model code of conduct. They have also requested the Election Commission of India to increase the cash carry limit per Individual.

The Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association (SIEMA) president, KV Karthik said," This is the peak season for the pump set industries and various other sectors. Many farmers will be making the pump set purchase. A base model pump set used in the agriculture sector is 5 HP. For borewell pump set it would cost Rs 1.5 lakh to 2 lakhs. The same for an open well will be charged at Rs 60,000. These prices include the entire system such as cable, pipe etc which are essential to install a motor pump set. Only 10% of the farmers are using the digital mode of payment methods.

Moreover as per the model code of conduct they cannot even carry the cash from Mundi where they sell their farm products. It is highly difficult for all of them to have documents each and every time for carrying cash. We request the government officials not to harass the people, farmers and business peoples in the name of checking. Nowadays officials can easily find out the nature of the persons using telecommunication and various other facilities such as Aadhar card etc. We also request the Election Commission of India to increase the cash carry limit per person." He said.

Tamil Nadu Association for Cottage and Micro Enterprises (TACT) Coimbatore District president, J James said," Already the micro industries are reeling under crisis. In this situation if the officials start harassing the industrialists who carry cash for their business, that would very badly affect the industries.

Officials who are deployed in the flying squad should be more friendly towards the industrialists and business peoples.

The micro industrialists while purchasing the raw materials and various other industry purposes will carry cash in their hands. It is highly impossible for us to carry the documents for these purposes. Officials can easily check and find out the background of the industrialists. They should quickly check and confirm and let the Industrialists carry on with their work.

In the past we have had many bitter experiences in which industrialists even after having everything were made to wait for two days to get back their own amount.

Our request is not only for industry or business but otherwise people who may carry cash for various emergency purposes such as to give it to their relative who is at hospital etc.

The reasons like this should be checked very quickly by the flying squad officials and let the people carry on their activities without any hindrances."He said.
