Later, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora also announced that candidates in Tamilnadu can file their nominations from 10th March 2021. The last date for filing nominations in Tamilnadu is set on 19th March 2021. Post that the election nominations will be reviewed on 20th March 2021and the last date to withdraw the election nominations is set on 22nd March 2021. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora also said that the votes filed on 6th April 2021will be counted on May 2nd 2021.
District Collector Rajamani has been appointed as the Returning Officer for Coimbatore District. The Coimbatore district has come under the control of the Returning Officer as per the Code of Conduct for Elections.
Coimbatore district has a total of 10 assembly constituencies. In Coimbatore, the final voter list was released by Collector Rajamani and has 30 lakh 62 thousand 744 voters in 10 assembly constituencies. In that 15,9,531 people are male voters, 15,52,799 are female voters and 414 third gender voters.Of these, 37,667 are first-time voters between the ages of 18 and 19.
Kavundampalayam constituency has the maximum number of voters (4,61,000) and Valparai has the minimum number of voters 2,5,335. Coimbatore district currently has 3,048 voting booths in 979 polling stations. Officials advised to set up additional polling stations to limit voting booths to 1000 voters due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Post that Coimbatore currently which has more than 1000 voters in 1,477 polling stations has added an additional 1,500 polling stations for the assembly election. Around 20,000 government employees are to be involved in the election process.
Electoral division officials stated that, “The rules of conduct for elections have come into force so that money and goods can be carried only by following the rules. Flying squads are set up to monitor the candidates. 30 flying squadrons are in duty with 3 flying squadrons per constituency. Further basic facilities required for polling are being made. Tense polling stations will be identified and further surveillance will be carried out there, ”
