Coimbatore: Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary Ramakrishnan headed a demonstration today in front of the Railway station in Tirupur.

During the protest Ramkrishnan stated that “Southern Railways operated a passenger train between the districts of Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode which benefited students, traders, workers and the public. However, the Central Government halted the train service due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, relaxations have been announced and long-distance express trains are being allowed to operate.”
“These passenger trains which are used by the poor and common people still remain shut, which has severely affected the daily life of the people. Government has also declared a price hike in the fare from 15 rupees per ticket to 50 rupees.” said Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary Ramakrishnan
He then urged the government to take immediate actions to reinstate the passenger train service which benefits many.
