Name change alone won't suffice, Devendra Kula Vellalars should be removed from reservation - Dr Krishnasamy

Puthiya Tamilagam party leader Dr Krishnaswamy met the reporters today at his residence in Kuniyamuthur, Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: Puthiya Tamilagam party leader Dr Krishnaswamy met the reporters today at his residence in Kuniyamuthur, Coimbatore.

“We have been insisting for 30 years that 6 castes in the Scheduled caste list should be excluded from it along with the removal of Devendra Kula Vellalars from the list. But the Central Government has now only made a name change without delisting them would not be of any benefit to the community. Devendra Kula Vellalars should be removed from the list and there is no convincing us in this”

Dr Krishnasamy also said that “we are not worried about the reservation for Devendra Kula Vellalars as we just want them off the list.” He then said there was no point in simply treating the wound without actually removing the thorn.

Further during the meeting Dr Krishnasamy, leader of the Puthiya Tamilagam party said that “it is not right for other communities to limit the usage of the name Vellalar and said that there are 56 Vellalars and we also want to be a part of it.” He then added that the removal from the list is the first step towards caste elimination.

He then said that the party who said that they would give subsidy are now giving less subsidy. Dr Krishnasamy also said that the increase in petrol and diesel prices is going out of control and stated that as the reason for the increase in the prices of other commodities. He also said that the Puthiya Tamilagam party will meet on March 1st regarding their stand regarding election.

He then said that the state government should call the Anganwadi workers and transport workers and have a talk to them about their demands. When asked about the NDA alliance, he said that Puthiya Tamilagam party’s decision regarding the alliance will be decided during the general meeting and also said that Puthiya Tamilagam party is not in touch with AIADMK, BJP or any other party.

Further during the meeting, Dr Krishnasamy said that he was anguished on hearing the news about Communist Party of India senior leader, writer and speaker D Pandian’s passing away and also said that he has been a friend for 30 years and that we went together to the Geneva conference on the Eelam issue. Describing Pandian as his best friend and best politician, Dr Krishnasamy expressed his deepest condolences on behalf of the Puthiya Tamilagam party.
