All trade unions continue indefinite strike, says government's interim relief fund is a scam

Members urged the government to immediately find a solution to the salary issue.

Coimbatore: Members of all Workers Union took part in a protest in front of the Sungam Government Transport Office in Coimbatore today, urging the government to increase the salary contract, against the interim order issued by the government.l and multiple other issues faced by the transport authorities.

Members of the transport department involved in the strike stated that "State Government has completely abandoned the 14th discussion meeting to decide about the salary after forming it, even after continuous protests and struggles the government has not taken any decision.

After the successful struggle last year on March 10thand 11th organised by 30,000 transport workers across Tamilnadu, a discussion was made where the government assured to solve the problems faced by the transport employees. But no action has been taken regarding that till now.

Government delayed the discussion meeting with the employees on 20.03.2020stating Covid-19 pandemic, but the government conducted a lot of other surveys despite the situation. But neither the transport minister nor the transport department secretary made any effort to organize a discussion during the pandemic nor decided to conduct the meeting post when the curfew was lifted.

Finally on 18.02.2021a meeting took place to find a solution for this salary issue, discussion about the contract, budget discussion, retirement pension scheme for the staff and many other issues but the minister did not reply then too.

Post that another meeting was organised on 23.02.2021by various workers unions who then decided to go on strike, the government has been avoiding the discussion with the transport employees. We requested the government to finalise our situation before the state elections, in a fear of that not happening we went on strike from 25.02.2021. But the government's decision to give interim relief funds is strongly opposed.

This is not the order to sanction the pending amount agreed on 01.09.2019." they said. Members also said that they strongly oppose the government's sudden discussion without consulting the employees or the workers and requested the government to immediately find a solution for their issues.

They also warned the government that the indefinite strike will continue until the government comes up with an end to the struggles of the transport department.
