Chennai: Senior Communist leader and former Tamil Nadu State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) D. Pandian passed away in Chennai on Friday morning due to age-related health ailments.

A two-time former MP, he was 89 and is survived by two daughters and a son. He was reportedly in an unconscious state and was admitted at at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai on Wednesday, and treated for sepsis and hypoglycemia.
The senior CPI leader was put on life-saving medications and ventilatory support. And, he breathed his last 10.05 am, on Friday.
As the editor of Janasakthi, the official organ of the CPI, he has penned a lot of political articles and took part in several speeches and debates. He has also authored books and translated Communist literature.
Several political leaders and public are pouring their condolence messages in social media.
