PM Modi began his address by stating a famous Thirukural from Tamil and also began his address to the nation by saying “Vanakkam” the formal greeting in Tamil language.
Coimbatore: Prime Minister Modi arrived at the Coimbatore International Airport today where he was given a grand welcome in the presence of TN Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy, Deputy Chief Minister Panneer Selvam, other Tamil Nadu Ministers, Coimbatore District Collector, City Police Commissioner and other BJP officials.
This was followed by the event conducted at CODISSIA, where the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Government Welfare Project took place along with the inauguration of the completed government projects.
During the event PM Modi inaugurated projects worth Rs 12,400 crores and addressed the nation.

Prime Minister Modi dedicated the new thermal power project in Neyveli to the nation. In this project power will be generated from a lignite brown coal based power plant designed with a capacity of 1000 megawatts. The project will also have two power plants with a capacity of 500 MW each which has been developed at a cost of Rs 8000 crores. The power plant will generate electricity using the coal from the Neyveli mine as its fuel. The electricity generated from this plant will be shared among the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Tamil Nadu has 65% stake of this plant. Prime Minister Modi then dedicated NLC's 709 MW solar power project to the nation, which is spread over 2670 acres across the districts of Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar. This project has been set up at a cost of Rs 3000 crores.
Post this Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the expansion, renovation and modernization of the Keel Bhavani project. Construction of Bhavani Sagar Dam and Canal was completed in 1955. The Keel Bhavani canal project includes the Arakkan Kottai and Thadappally canals and the Kalingarayan canal. It will irrigate over 2 lakh acres of land in the districts of Erode, Tirupur and Karur.
The Lower Bhavani Project Canal Expansion and Rehabilitation Works has been set up at a cost of Rs 934 crore under the NABARD Federation Development Assistance Scheme. Apart from constructing canals, 824 culverts, 176 drains and 32 bridges will be repaired and constructed under the scheme.
PM Modi also inaugurated the 8-lane Kora Pallam Bridge and Railway bridge at Chidambaranar Port which is an important port in India and is currently managing the 76 percent of cargo that is transported to the port by road using the Korampallam resource.
The bridge was built in 1964 with a width of 14 meters. The bridge withstands an average of 3,000 heavy vehicle traffic daily, causing heavy traffic congestion and delays. The 8-lane Bridge and Railway Bridge project was implemented to provide uninterrupted transport of goods and to avoid traffic congestion in the port area.The road has been widened on both sides of the bridge from DTPS roundabout to City League roundabout at a cost of Rs 42 crores funded by the Sagarmala project.
Then Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for a 5 MW solar power plant that is to be set up at the Chidambaranar Port. The project is being set up at a cost of Rs 20 crores which is expected to generate over 80 lakh units of electricity per year.
Following this, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the flats built under the Prime Minister's Urban Housing Scheme. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 1280 flats built by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in Tirupur Veerapandi, the 1248 flats built in Thirukumaran Nagar, the 1088 flats built in Madurai and the 1088 flats built in Trichy Irungal area. These flats were built at a cost of Rs 330 crores. Each apartment is reserved for the poor slum dwellers in the urban areas. The apartments are built with a hall, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom facilities. Proper roads, waste water treatment plant ration Shop, anganwadi center library and shops are to be set up in the area.

Later Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for the establishment of integrated control centers in nine smart cities of Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem, Thanjavur, Vellore, Trichy, Tiruppur, Nellai and Thoothukudi at a cost of Rs 107 crores. Prime Minister Modi dedicated a total of Rs 12,400 crore worth of projects to the country.
