PWD officials researched the groundwater level in more than 34 districts across Tamilnadu.
Coimbatore: Tamilnadu Public Works Department conducted a research, testing the groundwater level of more than 34 districts across the state.
During the research by Tamilnadu Public Works Department, it was confirmed that the groundwater level has increased across the different districts in Tamilnadu.
PWD officials in every district are involved in calculating the groundwater level in their particular district every month. In the findings from December 2020 to Jan 2021 the groundwater level has been reduced in the districts of Kanchipuram 0.15m, Thanjavur 0.07m and Kanyakumari 0.27m.
Groundwater level has been increased in around 34 districts in Tamilnadu and officials say that the delayed rains as to be a reason behind the increase in groundwater level. It has increased drastically in the districts of Perambalur 3.06m, Ariyalur 2.38m and Kallakurichi 2.87m.
Officials in their research also stated that the groundwater level at 9 districts is comparatively low this year than the readings taken in January last year.
Groundwater level has also decreased in the districts including Coimbatore 0.041m, Erode 1.23m, Namakkal 0.25m, Salem 0.12m and The Nilgiris 0.65m.
The groundwater level has competitively increased in Tirupur to 0.51m.
