Coimbatore: Minister SP Velumani inaugurated the model road and took a selfie in front of the phoenix bird statue in RS Puram.
Coimbatore RS Puram Diwan Bahadur Road has been upgraded as a model road for the Smart City project.
Coimbatore District Assembly members and secretaries of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam attended the inauguration ceremony.
Minister SP Velumani said, "We have completed the construction of model roads for the Smart City project in Tamil Nadu with various infrastructure facilities. These smart roads are equipped with electricity connection, drinking water pipes and various technical facilities, multilevel parking facilities. Work has been done well despite the obstacles from various quarters. Roads have been improved to reduce traffic congestion and accidents have been reduced. Coimbatore has the highest number of bridges in Tamil Nadu. He said work was underway to build a 10 km bridge on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore alone."
Similarly, model roads are constructed at various places in Coimbatore and will be opened soon. The smart road will be opened on the 27th in Ukkadam area and he invited everyone for the same. Following the Smart City, many IT companies will be brought to Coimbatore. He also said that it has paved the way for increasing employment. He added that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy said that the Avinashi-Athikadavu problem that had been going on for many years during their rule had been solved and that Palanisamy was a simple Chief Minister who was working for the people.
He said that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has written off agricultural crop loans knowing the importance of farmers. In the interim budget announced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, a metro rail project worth Rs 6000 crore has been announced for Coimbatore. Work on the project will begin soon, and the Coimbatore Government Hospital has recently purchased Rs 25 crore worth of cancer treatment equipment. He said equipment for heart surgery has been provided in government hospitals.
The Noyyal River, which had not been rehabilitated for many years, is now being rehabilitated and the works have been started. The Coimbatore Racecourse and Gandhi Park areas have been upgraded and rehabilitated and a 24/7 drinking water project will be launched soon. He said a few people are talking about water being mortgaged and sold in the Suez drinking water supply scheme which is not true.
He said a cricket stadium would be set up in Coimbatore and the zoo would be upgraded. He said that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has shown unprecedented growth in Tamil Nadu in the last five years.
