Transport workers strike: Only 30 percent of buses in operation.
Coimbatore: As transport workers strike, only 30 percent of buses in operation in Coimbatore. The union held talks with officials, including the transport minister, last month, emphasizing various demands, including a pay rise and permanent employment for temporary workers.

The unions have announced an indefinite strike from today, as they did not come to a consensus in those talks. While 3000 city buses and 1500 suburban buses normally operate in the Coimbatore division, only 30 percent of the buses are still operating due to the transport workers' strike.

The AIADMK's ABT unions and temporary employees are driving the buses.

Private buses are operating as usual.
