Minister SP Velumani inaugurates Model Road in DB road, RS Puram under the Smart City Project at a cost of 24.71 crore.
Coimbatore: Minister SP Velumaniinaugurated the RS Puram, Model Road in the DB road in the West Zone, Coimbatore Corporation under the Smart City Project at an estimated cost of 24.71 crore. Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer P. Kumaravel Pandian, Commissioner of the Corporation and Private Officer presented the welcome address at the event.
After inaugurating the model road, Minister SP Velumani said, "Under the Smart City Project, various projects such as model roads, parks, children's parks, playgrounds, street lights and sidewalks are being carried out in the Corporation of Coimbatore. In the RS Puram, DB Road which is the symbol of the Coimbatore district, has been converted into a model road with all the amenities required by the people and is open to the public today. About 1.8 km of this model road has been upgraded and implemented to protect the environment of the city. The project has been implemented in accordance with the rules of the Ministry of Urban Development."

The road is paved on both sides with granite and stone paved sidewalks to ensure safety of pedestrians. All utilities such as electricity, communication, drinking water supply, sewage and rainwater drainage are set up underground. Electricity, communications, drinking water supply, sewage and rainwater drainage are set up underground separately for each house and commercial building. This eliminates the need for road repairs and facilitates smooth distribution, movement and maintenance.
Street lights and sidewalk lights are installed at regular intervals, luminous sign boards and lightweight concrete barriers are set up to ensure safety. Information billboards, navigation map boards, biographies of local freedom fighters and prominent personalities are set up. Traffic rules, street names, bus stops , warning signs and compost bins are set up. Separation of waste systems are set up and granite seats are placed around trees.

A decorative clock and a selfie spot have been installed in the center of the road as in London.
