Government transport workers on indefinite strike from tomorrow; Up to 700 buses will not run in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Government transport workers in Coimbatore have announced to go on an indefinite strike from tomorrow, urging the government to immediately start wage negotiations.
The TN Government has dragged the 14th wage hike contract negotiations of the workers working at the State Transport Corporation. Government transport workers in the Coimbatore region are set to go on strike on behalf of all the trade union federations, insisting on immediate negotiations and solutions.
Coimbatore Regional Secretary of the State Transport Workers Union Periyasamy stated, “There are about 1200 buses in the Coimbatore region. Of these, only about 900 buses currently operate due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Up to 700 buses will not run due to this strike. There are more than 6,000 workers in the Coimbatore region and about 60% of them will join the strike,”he said.
Various trade unions, including the state transport unions LPF, CITU, AITUC, HMS and INTUC are to take part in the strike.
