Coimbatore East DMK Secretary Karthik MLA requested the Southern Railway officials to re-operate the stopped Coimbatore-Rameswaram train service.
Coimbatore: MLA Na Karthik issued a press release requesting the officials of Southern Railways to re-operate the train service from Coimbatore to all Southern Districts for the benefit of thousands of workers from Southern Districts.
In the press release Karthik MLA stated that “A passenger train from Coimbatore to Rameshwaram was operated on the meter gauge line via Pollachi, Udumalai and Dindigul. Later the expansion works of Pothanur, Pollachi, Palani and Dindigul commenced which led to the cancellation of many trains operating on the same route which connected Tirupur and The Nilgiris districts with the southern districts of Tamilnadu.
This affected the general passengers and other senior citizens who prefered to travel by train than other means of transport considening long distance travel, low fares, convenience and on time arrival.”
“Passengers traveling from Coimbatore to the southern districts have been forced to pay higher fares on private Omni buses due to the lack of rail service facilities. It is a common request from these passengers to take immediate action to reactivate these stopped trains.
Therefore, considering the issues that people face, I request the Southern Railway and the Coimbatore District Administration to take appropriate action to re-operate the Coimbatore-Rameswaram train, which will benefit of millions of people from the Southern Districts who are living in the districts of Coimbatore, Tiruppur and The Nilgiris.”
