Coimbatore: Education department officers sit-in protest in Coimbatore as junior officials have been promoted while eligible senior officialshave still not been promoted. Perur Education District Office staff suddenly locked the office at 9pm last night and engaged in a sit-in protest and condemned the promotion of junior officers while seniors officers were eligible to the post. There was a stir in the area as they continued the protest and cooked and ate for the night. Four registrar writers have complained that they have not been promoted to laboratory assistant despite their qualifications and they also alleged that other persons are said to have been given promotions last year in violation of the vacancy rules.
Condemning this, on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Education Executive Officers Association, some of the employees engaged in a sit-in protest after 6:00 pm yesterday. As there was no negotiation made until 8:30 pm, dinner was cooked and eaten in the office premises.
When the Kuniyamuthur police held peace talks, Perur Education District Officer Ramesh said, "After I took charge, no rules were violated. As there is currently no vacancy for a laboratory assistant, nothing can be done beyond my authority."
