Tamil Nadu interim budget 2021-22; 34,181 Cr allocated for school education.
For 2021-22, the interim budget estimated an overall revenue deficit of ₹41,417.30 crore and fiscal deficit is estimated at ₹84,202.39 crore.
Chennai: Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam on Tuesday during interim budget presentation 2021-22, informed allotmentment of Rs 34, 181 crore for school education.
Reflecting a notable impact from the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic on the finances, the Deputy CM said the "pandemic has led to a sharp drop of revenue. However, the expenditure levels had to be enhanced to ensure people’s safety during such unprecedented times."
While presenting the budget at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai, the Deputy CM who holds the financial portfolio informed that Rs. 100 crore has been allocated to improvise the accommodation of people representing Adi Dravidar Community besides allocating Rs. 1932 crore for the improvement of community.
Besides, Rs. 1276 crore for the Tribal sub project, Rs 39,941 crore has been allotted for the upcoming 62 investments projects in the state, Rs. 6448 crore for Chennai-Kanyakumari industrial route project, Rs.200 crore for Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, Rs.3140 crores for the development of GCC, has been allocated in the budget.
The state has also received Rs.1492 crores from the world bank to assist in state’s housing sector.
In a bid to improvise public health, a sum of rupees Rs.144.33 crore has been allocated for the upcoming community health complexes across the state.Deputy CM also highlighted the expenses of government due to the outbreak of Covid to be around Rs.12,913 crore.
Nevertheless, the budget, as expected, has allocated a sum of rupees Rs 5171 crore for phase 2 of road development in the targeted areas across the state.
Subsidy’s for roofing under PM’s housing schemes has been increased to 70,000 and over 40 lakh households to be provided with drinking water connection soon at an estimated cost of Rs.3,016 crore.
The state’s fiscal deficit for this year, however, projected at 4.99 percent. And, the overall debt outstanding as on March 31, 2021 is estimated to be Rsb4,85,502, crore and Rs 5,70,189.29 crore as on March 2022, which is well within the norms prescribed by the 15th Finance Commission, the Deputy CM said.
