TNEB Contract Workers Union members participated in a protest at the District Collector's Office in Coimbatore today by returning the citizenship and voting ID cards as a way of expressing their woes and to defend the livelihood rights of the Tamilnadu Electricity Board Contract Workers.
The protestors demanded the protection of the livelihood rights of more than 500 contract workers engaged in various jobs in the electricity sector since 1998 and accused the Tamilnadu government of forgetting the workers who helped during times of calamity.

They also said that the Tamilnadu government and electricity minister made an agreement with the workers union on February 22nd 2018 to provide a daily wage of Rs 380, but hasn’t issued it yet even after 3 years.
Later, the workers said that the Tamilnadu government has no interest about the welfare of the workers and that is the reason behind returning their citizenship and voting identity cards to the Coimbatore District Collector as a way of expressing condemnation.
