Elephants walk holding their trunks in the Mettupalayam Elephant Rejuvenation camp
Coimbatore: Elephant rejuvenation camp is being held at Mettupalayam. Elephants are attracting the onlookers in several ways and they are walking holding trunks, showing love with kisses and embracing in friendship. The elephant rejuvenation camp is being held on behalf of the Hindu Charities Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu at Thekkampatti and Bhavani river near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district.
The camp is attended by 26 elephants from temples and mutts in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The elephants here are given daily walks and nutritious natural foods. Onlookers are amazed as the elephants perform various activities with great pleasure. The elephants that attend this camp are getting friendly and especially the Rameswaram Ramanathaswamy temple elephant Ramalakshmi is astonishing everyone by obeying the orders given by the pagans in Hindi. This elephant and the Kalyani of Perur Patteeswarar temple next to Coimbatore are getting very friendly.
These two elephants go walking together and go bathing together in the camp. It's beautiful to see elephant Vali lift her neck with great enthusiasm, especially when she goes for a bath in the morning. The onlookers are amazed on how the temple elephants are rejuvenated by this camp.
While the display of amity is so heartwarming to see, two mahouts who train elephants were pictured beating the elephants brutally to listen to their commands two days back from the same camp.
