Coimbatore: More than a thousand people participated in the protest on behalf of the DMK condemning the increase in petrol and diesel prices. DMK leader MK Stalin had announced that protests would be held in all districts in Tamil Nadu condemning the rising prices of petrol and diesel, the basic needs of the people. A protest was held on behalf of the Coimbatore District DMK and more than a thousand DMK executives participated in it. The flags of the DMK and its parties were seen everywhere and heavy police security arrangements were made.
They condemned BJP and AIADMK for raising petrol, diesel and gas prices. A massive protest was held in front of the Coimbatore South Taluk Office on behalf of the Coimbatore District DMK, demanding an immediate lowering of the prices.
Coimbatore East District Officer N. Karthik MLA, Coimbatore North District Officer C. R. Ramachandran ex-MLA, Coimbatore West District Officer Paiya (A) Krishnan and Coimbatore East District Officer S. Senadhipathi presided over the event.
In their announcement on 17.02.2021, the Chairman said that the AIADMK did not react to the unprecedented rise in petrol and diesel prices and cooking gas prices. They condemned the BJP Government and Central BJP to immediately cancel excise duty and cut prices for the fue and asked to end the suffering of the people.
They alleged that the state government continues to work with the central government without caring about the welfare of the people and without realizing the basic needs of the people.Various demands were emphasized at the meeting, including the immediate need for withdrawal of petrol and diesel price and gas hike by the central and state governments.
During the protest, all the District Administrators, District Responsibility Committee Members, Head Executive Committee, General Executive Committee, General Committee Members, Regional, Union, Circle, City Council Officers, District Organizers, Deputy Organizers, Senior Leaders of the Association, All party executives, party activists, volunteers, the public, and social activists attended in large numbers. Heavy police security was in place due to the protest. Traffic was diverted for about two hours.
