Two arrested for poaching wild boar using country bombs near Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Forest Department officials on Sunday arrested two tribal persons on charges of poaching a wild boar using a "Avitukkai", a country bomb in Sieumugai forest range near Coimbatore.
Despite strict vigil by the forest department against wildlife offences, incidents of poaching and killing of wild boars to protect agricultural crops using country bombs is on the rise in Coimbatore district.
In one such incident, acting upon a tip-off, Sirumugai forest officials conducted a search in Ammachettipudur in Annur Taluk. During the search, James alias Ramasamy (38)was caught red-hamded while he was preparing to cook the meat of wild boar that was killed by him along with his neighbour Kaliappan (50).
Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo set country explosives called 'Avittukais'and killed a wild boar near a graveyard in Pattakaaranpudur. Based on the confirmation given by Vetenarian Sugumar after postmortem of the dead animal, the duo were produced at Annur Police station for further legal proceedings.
