Coimbatore: Minister SP Velumani today inaugurated the 2021 Jallikattu event in Coimbatore after which he addressed the press and media.

During his address he said that "Jallikattu is conducted for the 4th year in a row this time. Jallikattu event in Coimbatore is a grand event compared to other districts. Jallikattu is one of Tamil's oldest traditional activities. The event which was delayed for a long time took place from the year 2018 with the help of various officials and authorities.

Around 445 bulls and 323 bull fighters took part in the Jallikattu event that happened in 2018, later in 2019 around 746 bulls and 599 bull fighters participated in the event. During the Jallikattu event last year around 940 bulls participated in the event along with 745 bull fighters.
Every year the participants are given extraordinary gifts such as cars, bikes, gold coins etc. Lakhs of audience cheered the bulls and bull-fighters last year. This year around 1000 bulls are taking part in the event with over 900 bull fighters.

Special medical checkup has been set-up for both the bulls and bull-fighters who are taking part in the Jallikattu.
To facilitate the audience a spectator gallery along with basic amenities like water, food and restrooms has been built.

A special 18 member veterinary doctors team is kept ready to treat the bulls and a 12 members doctor team is kept ready to treat the injured bull-fighters. Special roofings and barricades have been set-up ahead of the grand Jallikattu tournament. I thank Chief Minister Edapadi Palanisamy for making this event happen.

It is great to see healthy bull's from around Coimbatore participating in this event. Usually Jallikattu is traditionally in Madurai, Theni and Dindigul but since Jallikattu is happening in Coimbatore the number of cattle rearers have increased. This growth will help agriculture. Jallikattu is a proof that AIADMK has recovered Tamil traditions." He said
