2,300 kg of ration rice being smuggled from Coimbatore to Kerala confiscated: One arrested.
Coimbatore: 2,300 kg of ration rice bundles were seized from a van in Sulur area. One person was arrested and handed over to the Food Smuggling Prevention Unit.
Sulur sub-inspector Radhakrishnan received a tip off l yesterday eveningthat ration rice was being smuggled to Kerala by van from Sulur in Coimbatore. Following this, police including Sub-Inspector Radhakrishnan and Arul Prakash inspected vehicles coming near Agro Company on Palakkad Road, Coimbatore.
When they inspected the Bolero pickup vehicle and an Ashok Leyland vehicle it contained 56 ration rice bundles weighing 50 kg each. The total weight was 2300 kg. Police arrested Karthik from Dindigul who was driving the van however another driver, Thangaraj, escaped. Karthik on interrogation revealed that he was smuggling ration rice to Kerala. Following this, the police filed a case and handed over the ration rice bundles and the accused to the Food Smuggling Prevention Unit.
