Coimbatore: DMK Coimbatore East members organised the “Ungal Thoguthiyil Naan” election campaign at a ground near CODISSIA, Coimbatore. DMK Chief Stalin who took part in the event accepted petitions from the people present at the meeting. Some of them even dropped their petitions at the people’s box kept at the venue.

From those petitions, selected people were allowed to ask questions, On that basis Lakshmi Ammal from Singanallur area said that “I live in Singanallur area, The flyover in SIHS Colony area is never ending. This has affected our daily life. Accidents are happening often. The bridge work must be completed immediately. The dumpsters in the area are overflowing causing us grave pain to stay there.”

In her petition Lakshmi Ammal said that her son-in-law died tragically as she was unable to take him to the hospital by an ambulance due to unfinished work on the flyover in SIHS Colony.

DMK Chief MK Stalin in response said that “Karthik MLA and MP Natarajan have been continuing their struggles by emphasizing various demands from the area. Karthik MLA has also spoken about this issue in the assembly. A social solution would be found soon, once DMK comes to power.”

Following that, Vasantha Kumar from Singanallur said that “small and micro enterprises have continued to weaken due to circumstances such as the GST, Covid -19 curfew and currency devaluation. So we got a loan from the bank and we are doing our business.

Therefore, once the DMK comes to power, the 18% GST levied on small and micro enterprises should be reduced to 5%. The loans by MSMEs must be waived off. Government must provide free electricity to small and micro entrepreneurs.” Answering his demand DMK Chief stated that immediate action will be taken once the regime was in place.

Later, Ganesan from the North assembly constituency questioned that “Land was acquired from the public for the construction of Bharathiar University. So far no one got the settlement for it. The Court ruled in our favour in 2008 but the government made an appeal in 2011. That is why we are constantly suffering. We were assured that jobs will be provided for the land givers but we haven’t got that too.” Stalin assured him to kindly wait for 3 more months and promised to solve this soon.

Vijaya, from Kavundampalayam area, told Stalin, "We live in Vilankurichi, all 400 families belong to the Arundhatiyar community. Of these, 250 are employed as corporation contract staff. We don’t get enough income. Even after working for 14 years we have not yet been made permanent. Our demands should be implemented as soon as the DMK government is formed.” He requested.

MK Stalin then responded by saying “ I have seen you people protesting at the Collector's office. You are constantly struggling. Your work during the Covid-19 pandemic was immense. Therefore, the DMK government will give full importance to your request. I recently read in the papers that a cleaner named Velmurugan had committed suicide by hanging himself at the entrance of the Madurai District Collector's office due to mental distress as he was not paid his salary for 8 months. My deep condolences. My father Kalaingar Karunanidhi would go directly to meet protestors when he was chief minister to find an immediate solution. As his son I will work towards settling your issues in 3 months.”

More than 10 questions were put before Stalin during the meeting which he answered them all. DMK Chief Stalin then asked the people to withhold the acknowledgment card when they petitioned a request. “All your demands will be completed within 100 days of DMK coming to power. If a few petitions are not executed by us due to some problem. With the registration number and receipt in hand you can come directly to the fort and your demands will be completed.”
