Indefinite strike by Revenue Department over 10-point demand: 350 employees were absent yesterday.
Coimbatore: Revenue officials across Tamil Nadu are on an indefinite strike, demanding a 10-point demand to fill vacancies in the revenue department. Yesterday350 employees were absent and the Revenue Department office was left without officers. The indefinite strike on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Revenue Officers' Union began yesterday, emphasizing ten-point demands, including filling vacancies.
On behalf of Coimbatore 350 people took part in it. As the assembly election approaches government employees' unions have been staging ongoing protests. Following the Government Employees Union, the Nutrition and mid-day meal workers, treasury workers, the revenue department has also joined the protest.
They demanded improved pay, training for new employees, filling of vacancies and cancellation of the new pension scheme. In the Coimbatore District Collector’s Office under the Revenue Department yesterday, 70 people took leave and took part in the protest to boycott work. As the election approaches and with the coronavirus prevention work, and amidst the orders to complete various welfare distribution tasks, the protest of the employees is sure to have a major impact.
Union District Secretary Shanmugaraj said, “Three phases of protest have been completed so far. As we have not been called for talks, we have embarked on the fourth phase which is the indefinite strike. The strike will continue until we are called for negotiation."
