Coimbatore: Police are on the lookout for 2 teenagers who introduced themselves as police to an old woman and stole 5 soverigns of gold from her.
According to the police, Anantha Krishnan's wife Saraswathi (age 60), a resident of JJ Nagar near Idayarpalayam, was walking on Kanchipuram Rajaji Road last evening when two youths came by and introduced themselves as policemen. The members then told Saraswati that there are a lot of chain snatchers in the area and advised her not to wear such jewelry during old age.
Believing this to be true, Saraswathi took off the 3 sovereigns chain around her neck along with another chain of 2 sovereigns and gave it to the man who told that they were police officials. The members got the chain and folded it in a paper and gave it to Saraswathi to keep in her handbag.
After walking a little distance, Saraswathi oopened the paper and saw that there were only small stones in it. It was later revealed that the teenagers, who claimed to be police, had tricked and snatched the jewelery from the old woman. Saraswathi then filed a complaint at the Kattoor police station. The police have registered a case and are looking for the teenagers who snatched 5 pounds of jewelery the old woman.
